72 Traffic Accidents in a Week in Northern Cyprus: Two Dead and 22 Injured

There were 72 accidents on the roads of Northern Cyprus in a week. Two people died in the accidents, and another 22 were injured.

According to the police spokesperson, from January 29th to February 4th, two accidents resulted in fatalities, 17 in injuries, and 53 in material damage. The number of fatalities in traffic accidents in 2024 has risen to 4.

21 road traffic incidents occurred in Famagusta, 19 in Nicosia, 17 in Kyrenia, 12 in Iskele, and 3 in Güzelyurt.

The total amount of damage caused by accidents amounted to 5,130.60 Turkish lira.

The main cause of accidents was speeding – 21 accidents; careless driving led to 15 incidents, and failure to stop at intersections led to another 15. Failure to maintain distance caused 11 accidents. In 10 cases, accidents occurred for other reasons.

During road traffic checks conducted by the police throughout the country over the week, 10,599 drivers were stopped, and 3,526 violators were identified. All of them were held accountable. Movement was prohibited for 217 vehicles, and 18 drivers were arrested.
