Two More Participants Arrested in Mass Brawl in Nicosia
The TRNC Police have detained two more participants in the mass brawl on Zahra Street in the fortified city of Nicosia. The police investigation into this case is ongoing.
According to the statement of law enforcement agencies, as part of the investigation, the police declared two more participants in the conflict wanted. During the operational activities, the suspects, two young men, were apprehended. One of them is 17 years old, and the other is 21 years old. Thus, the total number of arrested participants in the mass brawl has reached 21 people.
Recall that the mass brawl in the most popular entertainment district of Nicosia occurred late in the evening on February 22. It is not reported exactly what the young people did not agree on; however, judging by the videos posted on social media from the scene of the incident, sticks, stones, and even tables and chairs from local cafes were used.
About 150 young people aged approximately between 17 and 22 were involved in the scuffle. As later reported by the police, many of them are well known to law enforcement agencies for their involvement in local youth groups and have already had legal problems.
Following the incident, the Nicosia Police Department launched a large-scale investigation. At the initial stage, about a hundred statements were collected. Eighteen individuals identified through camera footage were arrested.
Yesterday, during the day, one more troublemaker was arrested by the court.
