Due to Anglo-American sanctions imposed against Russia, an increasing number of Russians are considering the TRNC as a "haven." According to the British publication The Guardian, Russian capital has made a significant contribution to the growth of the construction sector, particularly in the Iskele region.

It is reported that around 39,000 Russians have settled in the TRNC this year. At the same time, from January to September of this year, 58,788 Russians used the crossing points between the TRNC and Southern Cyprus.

A research report titled "Cypriot Confidentiality," prepared by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ), Paper Trail Media, and 67 media partners, also contains accusations against the TRNC.

  • It is evident that Russians are looking for a place to move their money after Anglo-American sanctions, and Turkey's refusal to impose sanctions against Russia significantly contributes to the flow of Russian money to Northern Cyprus, - states the research.

It is also noted that construction in Iskele can now be compared to the "new Limassol," both in terms of the influx of a large number of Russians and in terms of development.

  • If it used to be a plain area, today it has seriously "evolved," - writes the British publication.
