Two Turkish Cypriots Arrested for Smuggling Cigarettes from Larnaca to London
Customs officials at Larnaca Airport have apprehended two Turkish Cypriots who were caught trying to smuggle hundreds of cigarette cartons and tobacco into London.
According to the police press release, the incident occurred on August 31. During an inspection of four suitcases belonging to the suspects, customs officers discovered 244 cartons, each containing 200 cigarettes.
In addition, customs seized over 6 kilograms of loose tobacco, which lacked required warning labels in Greek and Turkish as well as security markings.
None of the seized tobacco products were declared. On September 1, the two individuals were arrested and brought before the Larnaca District Court, where they were held in custody for three days.
The hearing for this case is scheduled to begin on September 4.
