EU Allocates an Additional 5 Million Euros for Scholarships for Turkish Cypriots
The European Commission has announced the launch of the EU Scholarship Program for the Turkish Cypriot community for the 2025/26 academic year. This program is funded under the EU's Assistance Program, with a budget of 5 million euros.
The scholarship program offers educational, training, and professional development opportunities for Turkish Cypriots within the European Union.
"The main objective remains to support the reunification of the island," the statement says.
Thanks to this additional funding, the total budget allocated to this initiative now stands at 43 million euros.
Since 2022, the EU Scholarship Program has been fully funded by the EU and managed by the Goethe Institute.
In the 2024/25 academic year, around 140 Turkish Cypriots benefitted from the program, pursuing studies in 19 different EU member states. These students covered a range of subjects, including medicine, urban planning, sustainable regeneration, sustainable production development, and research on the European Union and human rights.
Looking ahead to 2025, this flagship program will continue to support students, professionals, and adult learners throughout the community, contributing significantly to the broader goal of fostering closer ties between the Turkish Cypriot community and the EU.
Applications for the new program opened on Friday, and the deadline to apply is April 2 at 23:59 Cyprus time.
Interested candidates can apply online via the EU Scholarship website: www.euburs.eu.
