The President of Northern Cyprus met with the President of Gambia and spoke at the OIC Summit
The President of Northern Cyprus, Ersin Tatar, held a bilateral meeting with the President of Gambia, Adama Barrow. The leader of the Turkish Cypriots thanked the head of the African state for the attention and hospitality shown to the TRNC delegation and expressed readiness to take steps for further development of relations between the two countries.
During the negotiations, Ersin Tatar briefed his colleague on the recent events related to the Cyprus issue and requested support in restoring justice for the Turkish Cypriots. It is noteworthy that the Gambian leader, Adama Barrow, also serves as the President of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
In response, the President of Gambia stated that he was delighted to see the TRNC delegation led by Ersin Tatar in his country and that he also wished to develop bilateral relations within the framework of the OIC.
During the delegation meetings, the President of the TRNC was accompanied by the Special Representative, Güneş Onar, and the First Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Hakan Aksoy.
Recall that the President of Northern Cyprus traveled to Gambia at the end of last week. Over the weekend, he delivered a speech at the 15th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, held in the capital city of Banjul.
In his speech, Ersin Tatar emphasized that the TRNC spares no effort to contribute to the activities and meetings of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation at all levels, and he reminded that the TRNC hosted OIC events three times in 2008, 2011, and 2014.
He also added that it would be an honor for Northern Cyprus to host OIC meetings in the future, especially in the fields of education, tourism, and trade.
