Dog Hotels in Karşıyak May End Up Illegal

The authorities of the Lapta-Alsancak-Çamlıbel municipality will cease issuing business permits for places used as dog hotels in Karşıyaka. This decision comes in response to numerous complaints from local residents.

According to the mayor, a permit for the construction of an animal farm was issued in previous years for this area, but later, a dog hotel was built here.

"The sounds coming from the places used as dog hotels in Karşıyaka disturb the residents of the region. The absence of a shelter in the region and the issuance of a permit for the operation of a dog hotel in buildings surrounded by other houses concern local residents," stated Firat Ataser in an interview with Kıbrıs Postası.

Considering the citizens' complaints, the authorities will stop issuing permits.

Firat Ataser also emphasized that building shelters and neutering animals will not solve the problem of stray dogs, which prevents children from walking peacefully on the streets.

"The streets are full of dogs due to gaps in the legislation. Even if we build 500 shelters, it will still not be enough. Therefore, we will not build a shelter; we will process applications for dog adoption and create a dog hospital in the region. We will take the necessary steps and undertake work that no one on the island is doing," said the mayor.
