In Northern Cyprus, three balloons were found in the stomach of a deceased turtle. However, its death was not caused by this.

According to a statement published on the social media of the Society for the Protection of Turtles in Northern Cyprus (SPOT), the young turtle got caught in fishing nets and drowned.

During the turtle's autopsy, three balloons were discovered in its digestive system.

"Turtles mistake plastic floating in the sea for jellyfish, algae, or other types of food that make up a significant part of their diet," said the statement from animal conservationists.

It was also noted that if a dead or injured turtle is found, people should call the hotline for support for dead or injured marine creatures at 1188.

"We couldn't believe our eyes during the autopsy of the turtle, which drowned after being caught in the nets of one of the fishermen we work with. We found three balloons in the digestive system of this young individual, who had not yet reached maturity," turtle advocates explained the details of the incident.
