A Truckload of Garbage Removed from the Sea Near Kyrenia's Ancient Harbor
A truckload of garbage was recently removed from the sea near the promenade of the Ancient Harbor in Kyrenia. The next phase of the cleanup effort will focus on the breakwater and the inner harbor.
The cleanup operation was carried out earlier this week, with Kyrenia Mayor Murat Şenkul sharing updates about the effort on his social media accounts.
"Workers removed an entire truckload of waste from the coastal area of the harbor," the mayor wrote. "The trash included everything from beer crates and gas cylinders to pieces of scaffolding and beer cans."
Mayor Şenkul expressed the municipality's desire to extend this successful cleanup initiative, conducted in cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism, to the inner harbor and breakwater areas.
"We need to move forward as soon as possible with cleaning the inner harbor and the breakwater, which is currently being dismantled," the mayor emphasized, while pointing out that these areas are outside the municipality's jurisdiction.
