TRNC President Ersin Tatar announced that the Immovable Property Commission (IPC) has resolved a total of 1,840 property claims to date.

According to Tatar, this year alone, the commission has processed 112 applications and granted compensation for nearly 200 cases. Compensation has been awarded for all decisions made by the end of 2020, and payments "will continue at the same pace in the coming period."

The report also highlights that out of all the resolved cases, 1,161 ended with compensation payments, 15 with restitution, two with a combination of exchange and compensation, and one with a property exchange.

In just the first five months of this year, Greek-Cypriots have received a total of £25.4 million (€29.8 million) from the Commission.

Established in 2005, the Immovable Property Commission handles claims for compensation, restitution (return of property in the north), and land exchanges filed by Greek-Cypriots who fled the north after 1974 and their descendants.

Since its inception, the IPC has awarded more than £446.2 million (€523.7 million) in compensation.
