Baggage Theft in Ercan: Casino Employee Leaked Names of Wealthy Clients to Husband
New details have emerged in the case of the theft of belongings from passengers' luggage at Ercan airport. The police have arrested another suspect: the wife of one of the accused worked in a casino and provided her husband with information about wealthy clients.
During the court hearing, the police reported that the suspect, Merim Atydji, learned the names of wealthy individuals who came to the casino from abroad and shared this information with her husband, Serdar Atydji, who worked in Ercan. It was from their suitcases that items were stolen. As part of the investigation, the woman will be detained for three days.
Recall that the theft of items from tourists' luggage at Ercan airport became known at the end of November. During the period from September to November, valuable items, money, and jewelry disappeared from the suitcases of several travelers.
Three employees working as baggage handlers at Istanbul Handling company in the passenger departure area were detained on suspicion of committing the crime.
Later, new episodes emerged in the case: the suspects stole a laptop, women's wristwatches, a diamond ring, earrings, a brooch, and a pearl necklace from the suitcases of two travelers.
The police added that during the search of the Atydji couple's house, valuables amounting to 10 million Turkish lira were found.
