Famagusta Municipality Offers Discounts for Taxpayers on Outstanding Debts
The Famagusta authorities have adopted a new decision for taxpayers who have outstanding debts to the municipality for the year 2023 and previous periods. Specifically, this concerns both municipal taxes and various utility obligations. The decision was made during a session of the municipal council.
According to this decision, citizens with debts dated before December 31, 2023, may settle their obligations without incurring penalties — provided they apply in a timely manner. The key condition is to contact the Revenue Department (Gelirler Şubesi) of Gazimağusa Municipality by the end of the working day on December 30, 2025. Once initiated, the action allows the taxpayer to benefit from preferential conditions.
If the debt is paid in full and at once, the citizen may receive a 90% discount on accrued late payment interest. The main debt amount remains unchanged, but additional charges are significantly reduced. If payment is planned in six equal installments (trusts), a 75% discount on penalties is available, provided the remaining agreement conditions are met.
Thus, the municipality has created two options for preferential debt restructuring:
full payment with a maximum 90% discount,
six-installment plan with a 75% discount.
To take advantage of the offer, it is important to act by December 30. Essentially, this is a chance for debtors to avoid significant additional costs, reduce financial burden, and settle their obligations with the municipality on more favorable terms.
