Three Injured After Billboard Collapses at TEKNOFEST in Northern Cyprus
Three people were injured when a large advertising billboard collapsed at the TEKNOFEST festival in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).
According to police, the incident occurred at around 1:20 p.m. today in the festival area on the grounds of the old Ercan Airport. Preliminary findings suggest that the roughly 20-meter-tall metal structure was toppled by strong winds.
The injured have been identified as Nurcihan Çaluda (67), Paul Savaga (55), and Philip Michael Conkie (56).
All three were rushed to Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital in Nicosia, where they are currently receiving treatment.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the collapse.
TEKNOFEST—the world’s largest aviation, space, and technology festival—is being held in Northern Cyprus for the first time, running from May 1 to May 4 at the old Ercan Airport site.
