Huge Traffic Jam at the Metahan Border Crossing
The celebration of Eid al-Fitr (Uraza Bayram) continues in Northern Cyprus, and during the holiday, a massive traffic jam has formed at the Metahan crossing point.
Local media reports that traffic at the border checkpoint has been severely delayed due to large crowds of people wanting to cross into the Republic of Cyprus to take advantage of the holiday.
On Monday morning, the line of vehicles stretched all the way back to the social housing area, with drivers waiting for several hours to cross the border.
Some citizens have suggested that authorities should implement additional measures to speed up the process.
The congestion at the border is expected to continue throughout the Eid al-Fitr festivities.
There is also increased activity in shopping centers, restaurants, and other popular tourist spots.
To recap, Ramadan in 2025 began on February 28 and ended on March 29. Believers marked Suhur on the night of February 28, with the first Iftar dinner on the same day. On March 26, Muslims celebrated Laylat al-Qadr (the Night of Power). On the following day, March 30, Muslims worldwide celebrated Eid al-Fitr, marking the end of the fasting period.
The holiday in Northern Cyprus will last until April 2, while in Turkey, it will continue until April 6. During the 10-day holiday period, Ercan Airport in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) is expected to handle over 1,000 flights.
