Suspects with Two Pistols Arrested in Northern Cyprus
In Northern Cyprus, two men were detained during a police operation with two illegal pistols and ammunition. The court detained the two suspects for two days.
Mehmet Yashar Jan and Erkan Yeni found themselves in the defendant's dock. During operations carried out in Nicosia and Kyrenia, two unregistered pistols, two magazines, and six cartridges were found on them. The detainees are suspected of "illegal importation, possession, and carrying of firearms."
As it became known during the court session, as part of the operation conducted by police groups on April 16 around 09:00 in the parking lot at the market in Minarelikoy, a pistol in a holster was found on the passenger of one of Mehmet Yashar Jan's cars. The weapon, magazine, and cartridges were seized as material evidence. The driver of the car, Erkan Yeni, was also arrested.
The second pistol and its magazine were found during a search of the house of one of the suspects in Kyrenia. Both suspects provided voluntary statements.
The found weapons will be sent for ballistic examination. The police asked the court to detain the accused for two days for further investigation. The judge agreed to this decision.
