North Cyprus to Begin Collecting Data on Incoming and Outgoing Passengers

North Cyprus will start collecting data on passengers entering and leaving the country. On Monday, July 15, the “Passenger Identification Survey” will commence at all entry points to the TRNC.

The purpose of the survey is to “determine the profile of passengers by collecting data on their country of residence, nationality, purpose of visit, and primary language,” and to create a foundation for the “Departing Passenger” and “Incoming Resident” surveys scheduled for 2025.

In the first phase, the “Passenger Identification Survey” will be applied to everyone entering or leaving the TRNC through airports, seaports, and all land border crossings. Survey staff will be on duty around the clock at border checkpoints and ports, conducting personal interviews using tablets.

The survey is being carried out in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Environment, the Central Bank, and the Statistical Institute.

In a joint statement, the agencies announced that the first phase of the survey will run from July to December 2024 to determine the sampling schemes to be used in data analysis.
