The TRNC Ministry of Health has provided an update on the condition of six infants who survived after alcohol was inadvertently added to their food in the neonatal intensive care unit at Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital in Nicosia.

According to the Ministry's statement, all six infants are in stable condition, and their recovery is progressing well.

As a reminder, the incident occurred last weekend in the neonatal intensive care unit at Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital, where seven infants suddenly became unwell. Tragically, one infant could not be saved.

Mihrimah Toymuradova, a 20-day-old preemie, had been receiving care in an incubator due to her premature birth. Sadly, news of her death reached the Ministry of Health and relevant authorities only later that Saturday. An investigation was launched immediately, and the on-duty medical staff were promptly suspended.

During the ongoing investigation, five healthcare workers were detained for their suspected involvement in this tragic incident. They are facing charges of “Failure to Take Precautionary Measures” and “Negligence.” The police confirmed that ethyl alcohol had been mistakenly added to the infants’ food.

A 5-liter bottle containing ethyl alcohol was found in the area where the suspects had been working.

The court has ordered a three-day custody period for the suspects to allow further investigation.
