Northern Cyprus to Commemorate the First President, Rauf Raif Denktaş
Northern Cyprus will honor the memory of its founding president, Rauf Raif Denktaş, on Monday, January 13, marking the 13th anniversary of his passing.
According to a statement from the President of the Central Committee for National Days and the Head of Protocol, the first ceremony will take place at the Rauf Raif Denktaş Mausoleum. It will begin at 10:08 AM with a wreath-laying, a moment of silence, and the national anthem. Speeches will be given by Serdar Denktaş, the son of the late founding president, and the current TRNC president, Ersin Tatar. The ceremony will conclude with the signing of a special memorial book.
The commemoration will continue with a second ceremony at the Atatürk Cultural Center at 10:45 AM. This will also begin with a moment of silence and the national anthem, followed by speeches from Serdar Denktaş and President Ersin Tatar.
The memorial day will conclude with an oratory performance by students from Esin Leman Secondary School.
