Northern Cyprus is seeing an expansion of the Turkish Cypriot Medical Association’s (KTTB) “Child-Friendly Restaurants” initiative. The latest area to join the project is the Tatlısu Municipality.

According to KTTB board member Erdem Beyoğlu, “child-friendly restaurants” are places where children can safely enjoy themselves, where services cater to their needs, and where families can dine comfortably.

The aim of the project is to increase the number of restaurants that are welcoming to children through collaboration with local municipalities. With Tatlısu now participating, the initiative has extended to five municipalities across the TRNC.

“When families visit a child-friendly restaurant, they should be able to eat in peace while their children have a good time in a safe and healthy environment,” the association noted in a statement.

Restaurants that meet the required standards are awarded the “Child-Friendly Restaurant” certificate. These establishments typically offer features such as dedicated kids’ menus, play areas, engaging activities, and safety measures.

It’s worth noting that the number of such restaurants in Northern Cyprus remains limited. The lack of official recognition for family-focused services highlights a significant gap in meeting the everyday needs of families.

As part of the collaboration with Tatlısu Municipality, restaurants in the area will be assessed based on specific “child-friendly” criteria, and those that qualify will be certified accordingly.
