Sea Turtle and Sand Lily Conservation Event to Be Held in Northern Cyprus
The 13th annual "Life from Sand" event will take place in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) on Sunday, September 1st, at the beach in the village of Akdeniz. This event focuses on the conservation of sea turtles and sand lilies and aims to raise public awareness about the importance of these species.
The event is organized by several local groups, including the North Cyprus Eco-Agrotourism Federation, the Biologists Association, the Turkish Cypriot Guides Association, the Lefka Tourism Associations, the Lefka Natural Sports Association, the North Cyprus Turtle Conservation Society, SPOT, and the Akdeniz Caretta Beach Restaurant.
The "Life from Sand" festival has become one of the most popular events for tourists in Northern Cyprus. The festival's main goals are to protect sand lilies, which grow in many Mediterranean villages, and to educate the public by observing the hatching of baby sea turtles.
During the event, there will be presentations about sand lilies (Pancratium maritimum) and sea turtles (Caretta caretta and Chelonia mydas). Attendees can also participate in a guided viewing of sand lilies with photographers and take a trip to the royal tombs. The festival will feature activities for children, kite flying, exhibitions, and opportunities for souvenir photos. The highlight of the day will be the release of baby sea turtles into the sea at 7:00 PM.
