Northern Cyprus to Commemorate Atatürk Memorial, Youth and Sports Week
Northern Cyprus will host a series of events to mark Atatürk Memorial, Youth and Sports Week, commemorating the 106th anniversary of the Turkish War of Independence—an historic struggle that began with the landing of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk in Samsun.
The week of celebrations, running from May 13 to 19, is being organized by the Ministry of National Education.
Throughout the country, the week will feature student parades, dance performances, sports competitions, cultural and social events, environmental activities, and official visits by students to government leaders. On Monday, May 19, Minister of National Education Nazım Çavuşoğlu will deliver a speech on the importance of the day, which will be broadcast on Bayrak Radio and Television at 8:00 a.m.
Wreath-laying ceremonies will take place at Atatürk monuments in all districts. A full program of events is expected to be released soon.
