8K Race Held in Northern Cyprus to Mark Atatürk Memorial Day
An 8-kilometre race was held in Northern Cyprus in honour of Atatürk Memorial, Youth and Sports Day, which is celebrated each year on May 19. Ersan Çoker took first place in the men’s category, while Iuliia Zozula claimed victory among the women.
The race, organized by the Athletics Federation, started at the Hamitköy roundabout and finished at Atatürk Stadium in Nicosia.
Following the race, a ceremony was held at Atatürk Stadium to award the winners. The Athletics Federation also presented commemorative plaques to the team from the Security Forces Command in recognition of their participation.

Atatürk Memorial, Youth and Sports Day was commemorated across Northern Cyprus on May 19, marking the 106th anniversary of the beginning of the Turkish War of Independence. The date remembers the landing of the country’s founding leader, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, in Samsun. Ceremonies and events took place in all districts of the TRNC to mark the occasion.
