Platform of Medical Organizations Established in Northern Cyprus
A platform of professional healthcare organizations of Turkish Cypriots has been established in Northern Cyprus, comprising 10 medical associations.
The coalition aims to “strengthen professional solidarity and cooperation among healthcare professionals.”
The platform, formed by 10 organizations, held its inaugural meeting at the invitation of the Turkish Cypriot Medical Association.
Participants in the first meeting included the Turkish Cypriot Medical Association, Turkish Cypriot Medical Chamber, Turkish Cypriot Dental Chamber, Turkish Cypriot Doctors' Union (Tıp-İş), Turkish Cypriot Freelancers Association, Turkish Cypriot Pharmacists Association, and Turkish Cypriot Veterinary Service.
Representatives from the Turkish Cypriot Dietitians' Union, Turkish Cypriot Psychologists Association, and Turkish Cypriot Physiotherapists Association also attended the event.
During the meeting, all organization representatives emphasized the importance of professional solidarity, cooperation, and collaborative efforts. Enhanced communication between the organizations will be a priority.
Joint actions will also be taken to advocate for laws regulating professional associations, particularly for physiotherapists and psychologists, who currently lack such legislation.
Furthermore, healthcare professionals across different fields agreed to collaborate against “attempts by the state and capital to undermine the rights of medical workers and damage the profession's reputation.”
All organizations agreed that universities providing medical education should admit students based on central examinations and established quotas, and they resolved to take action on this matter with YODAK and the Ministry of Education.
Joint committees will also be established to conduct public awareness campaigns on healthcare issues.
