Severely Emaciated Black Snake Rescued in Northern Cyprus
A Large Black Snake (Dolichophis jugularis) has been brought to the Wildlife Hospital in Northern Cyprus for urgent treatment after being found in a severely emaciated state. The snake had been trapped among the roots of a tree for nearly a month before it was finally rescued.
Staff at the Taşkent Nature Park explained that the reptile was suffering from extreme hunger and dehydration, leaving its body almost completely devoid of muscle mass.
Despite its critical condition, the snake demonstrated remarkable resilience, calmly allowing veterinarians to perform essential medical examinations.
An X-ray revealed a broken rib but confirmed there were no spinal injuries or signs of internal diseases.
“The patient is now receiving intensive and ongoing care at our hospital to rehydrate, treat the effects of malnutrition, heal its injuries, and restore its strength. This tenacious snake is gradually recovering, reminding us of the hardships local species can endure in the wild,” stated representatives of the nature reserve.
