Dogs Poisoned Again in Northern Cyprus
New reports of dog poisoning have emerged in Northern Cyprus. This time, unknown individuals fed poison to animals in Hamitköy. Two dogs have been confirmed dead, and two others are still missing.
The incident was reported by the "Golden Paws" animal welfare association. Animal rights activists have called for a thorough investigation and stressed the importance of showing compassion toward stray animals.
According to the association, the poisoning likely occurred on the night before the start of Ramadan. At least two dogs died, and the whereabouts of the other two remain unknown.
It is believed that the poison was spread near the Belça market, putting not only stray animals at risk but also domestic pets. Dog owners have been urged to stay alert.
It’s worth noting that last week, the parliament of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) approved amendments to the animal protection law. Animals are now legally recognized as living beings rather than property. The new rules also introduce harsher penalties for animal cruelty.
