Three of Six Alcohol-Poisoned Infants Discharged from Hospital in Northern Cyprus
Three of the six infants, whose formula had been contaminated with alcohol, were discharged from the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) of the emergency hospital.
According to the TRNC Ministry of Health, recent blood and urine tests on the six infants in the NICU showed no traces of alcohol.
"Three of the babies have been discharged and returned to their families after achieving the desired physical development and weight. The remaining three infants, whose treatment is ongoing, are stable and in good condition. They are expected to be discharged once their growth and weight reach the required levels," the Ministry of Health stated.
The incident took place last weekend in the NICU of Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital in Nicosia, where seven newborns suddenly fell ill. Sadly, one of the babies could not be saved, while six were admitted to the hospital.
An investigation revealed that ethyl alcohol had been mixed into the infants' formula.
