In Northern Cyprus, 19 olive oil samples were rejected

The Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources of the TRNC has tested local olive oil samples for falsification. As a result of the analysis, 19 samples were found unsuitable for consumption.

According to the ministry's statement, the inspections were carried out from January 4th to January 25th, 2024, in five regions of the country. A total of 66 olive oil samples were collected. 47 samples passed the test and were deemed suitable for consumption. The remaining 19 failed the tests and were recognized as falsified and unfit for consumption.

Two companies, which were manufacturers and sellers of three types of falsified olive oil, exercised their right to object and demanded a reanalysis of the witness samples.

"Based on the inspection report and analysis of two samples labeled 'Natural Olive Oil,' belonging to the company Sinde Trading, sent for re-examination on March 5th, 2024, the said oils were deemed unsuitable (falsified)," the ministry's statement said.

The statement notes that the sale and distribution of natural olive oil by Sinde Trading is carried out by the company Bafra Gıda Tic. Şti. Ltd.

In accordance with the law, an administrative fine will be imposed on the violating company.
