Hurricane-strength winds uprooted trees, tore roofs off buildings, caused widespread power outages, and led to road closures across the country. As the storm is expected to persist throughout the day, authorities have urged residents to stay indoors for their safety.

Kyrenia was one of the hardest-hit areas. On the Alsancak-Girne ring road, intense winds ripped a metal roof off a building, bringing traffic to a halt. Municipal teams and the police quickly intervened to clear the debris and restore the flow of traffic.

  • "We are experiencing a severe storm. Roofs have been torn off, trees uprooted, and our electrical infrastructure is struggling to cope with the strain. I sincerely hope we can avoid any loss of life," Kyrenia Mayor Murat Şenkul shared on social media, while urging citizens to stay indoors.

The Cyprus Turkish Electricity Authority (Kıb-Tek) reported power outages in several regions due to the hurricane. In a statement, the company assured the public that repair crews are working tirelessly to resolve the issues.

In Nicosia, a fallen tree blocked Fazıl Küçük Boulevard, disrupting traffic. Nicosia Mayor Mehmet Harmancı posted on social media that municipal teams remain on standby to handle emergencies caused by the storm. He reminded citizens that they can reach the Alo 185 solution hotline 24/7 for assistance.

Authorities are calling on residents to exercise caution and report emergencies to the appropriate authorities.
