Four employees were injured as a result of a chemical leak at the Teknecik power plant and were taken on 2 September 2025 to Dr. Akçiçek Hospital in Kyrenia. According to the hospital’s chief physician, Dr. Beyhan Berova, the victims reported throat burning and coughing; no signs of blurred vision, vomiting, or shortness of breath were observed.

Berova noted that the employees’ lives are not in danger, they remain under medical supervision, and are expected to be discharged within 4–5 hours depending on their condition. According to Ahmet Tuğcu, chairman of the Cyprus Electricity Authority employees’ union (EL-SEN), the victims’ condition is stable; they underwent oxygen therapy, blood tests, and X-rays.

Medical staff and union representatives emphasized that the incident requires an investigation into the causes of the leak and an assessment of safety compliance at the facility. Residents living near the power plant and employees are advised to seek medical help if similar symptoms appear and to follow official government announcements.
