In Northern Cyprus, butchers and dairy producers have decided to lower the prices of their products for the duration of the holy month of Ramadan. Following the Milk Producers Association's (SÜİB) announcement of a 10% price reduction on milk and dairy products, the Butchers Association has also followed suit with similar discounts on meat.

Rashit Shenkaya, President of the Butchers Association, explained that despite the challenges posed by recent economic difficulties, producers have chosen to offer a 10% discount on meat and meat products throughout Ramadan.

Shenkaya emphasized that the decision was made to "help businesses that are struggling to stay afloat" and to ensure that consumers can access essential food items at affordable prices.

The head of the Association also noted that the rise in raw material costs in recent years has significantly impacted production costs, which in turn has affected the prices consumers pay for meat.

"With this discount, which will apply to ground beef and some other beef products, we hope to offer our community quality meat at more affordable prices," said Shenkaya.

For context, the first day of Ramadan in 2025 fell on February 28, and the month will conclude on March 29. Believers held suhoor on the night of February 28 to March 1, with the first iftar meal taking place the same day. The Night of Power, or Laylat al-Qadr, will be observed on March 26. The following day, Sunday, March 30, Muslims around the world will celebrate Uraza Bayram (Eid al-Fitr), the festival marking the end of the fasting period.
