The pump station in Geçitköy may be repaired today, restoring water to homes in the TRNC
The Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources of the TRNC has provided details about a malfunction at the Geçitköy pump station, which has left residents of Northern Cyprus without water since yesterday. The department stated that if no unforeseen circumstances arise, the system will be operational today, and water supply will resume.
According to the ministry, there have been no disruptions on the sea line from the Turkish Republic to Northern Cyprus under the TRNC water supply project. The technical malfunction occurred at the Geçitköy dam itself, on the water supply line from the pump station to the Chamlıbel purification facilities.
“This malfunction is similar to malfunctions that occur on any residential area's power transmission line. However, since the malfunction occurred on the water supply line that provides water to the entire island, it was necessary to shut off the water supply throughout the country,” stated the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources stated that repair crews worked throughout the night, and work is ongoing and may be completed today.
Recall that repairs at the Geçitköy pump station under the water supply project from the Turkish Republic to the TRNC began yesterday at 8:00. Water supply was shut off across the entire island during the repairs.
The population is urged to use water consciously and economically. Additional information will be provided to the public on the progress of repair work at the pump station.
In İskele, the movement of traffic towards Long Beach was hindered yesterday evening due to a burst water pipe.
