Full Program Announced for Atatürk Memorial Day Celebrations in Girne
Girne’s Historic Harbour will come alive on May 19 with festivities celebrating the Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day. The event will run from 12:00 PM to 10:00 PM and will feature a vibrant mix of music, dance, and performances by local schools.
According to a statement from Girne Municipality, the celebrations will begin at 12:15 PM with a dance performance by Oguz Veli Secondary School.
At 1:10 PM, the Suat Günsel music group and the choir of Osman Nejat Konuk Secondary School will take the stage, followed by a performance from the Girne American College band at 1:30 PM.
The festivities will continue at 2:00 PM with a set by Anonhym’s Music Group from the Tourism Vocational High School, and at 2:20 PM, Anafartalar Secondary School will perform a traditional folk dance.
At 2:30 PM, local band Grup ODDA will perform, leading into a 3:45 PM choral performance by the Russian choir of Doğa International School. The same school will follow up with a dance show at 4:00 PM.
The program continues at 4:30 PM with a performance by Detone, a student band from the 19 Mayıs Maarif Turkish College, followed by Cloverduser, another band from the same school, at 5:00 PM.
TMK’s Modern Dance Show will begin at 5:15 PM, and the English School of Kyrenia’s band will take the stage at 5:40 PM. Super Nova will perform at 6:15 PM, followed by a live performance by Niyal Öztürk at 6:45 PM. The musical program will wrap up with a concert by Ahmet Evan at 8:00 PM.
The entire event is free and open to the public, and families are encouraged to join the celebration.
This year, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus will mark the 106th anniversary of the start of the Turkish War of Independence, which began with Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’s historic landing in Samsun. Events and activities are taking place across the country from May 13 to 19 in honour of this national day.
