Results of the TRNC Labor Market Research Published
The Statistical Institute of the TRNC has published the results of the household workforce survey in Northern Cyprus. The country's unemployment rate stands at 5.1%, which is 1.2% lower than the same period last year.
The "Household Labor Force Survey 2023" results were announced by the President of the Statistical Institute, Irfan Tansel Demir. The annual survey was conducted from October 16 to 29, 2023, by visiting 4,032 households selected randomly.
According to the published data, last year there were 148,211 employed individuals in Northern Cyprus. Of these, 65.3% or 96,803 were men, and 34.7% or 51,408 were women. The number of employed individuals increased by 602 people over the year. The overall employment rate of the population was 48.3%.
The number of employed individuals in the public sector of the TRNC was 35,844, accounting for 24.2% of total employment.
The highest employment rate was recorded in Kyrenia - 52.2%, while the lowest was in Lefke - 35%.
Out of 11,243 individuals working in the country without registration with any social protection institution, 72.2% were men.
The share of the agricultural sector in total employment was 3%, the industrial sector - 9.5%, the construction sector - 11.5%, and the service sector - 76.1%.
