Severe Shortage of School Bus Drivers in Northern Cyprus Before the School Year Starts

In Northern Cyprus, a significant shortage of school bus drivers has emerged just before the start of the new school year. Furthermore, authorities have yet to finalize the cost of student transportation.

Fuat Topaloğlu, President of the Association of Modern Public Transport Operators for Turkish Cypriots (Kar-İş), shared details about the challenges facing transport providers in an interview with Kıbrıs Postası.

As a reminder, the new school year in Northern Cyprus is set to begin on Monday, September 16.

Approximately 28,000 students will start their classes in 128 public and private schools under the Department of Primary Education. Additionally, around 30,000 students will attend 48 public and private schools under the Department of Secondary Education.

With the school year approaching, the union leader has urged the authorities to swiftly establish new public transport fares, as transportation costs for providers have risen significantly over the past year.

Topaloğlu also advised drivers to be cautious on the roads, as traffic is expected to increase substantially with the start of the school term.
