Northern Cyprus Leaders Express Condolences Following the Death of Turkish Singer Volkan Konak

The leaders of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) have expressed their condolences following the sudden death of Turkish singer Volkan Konak, who passed away from a heart attack during a concert in Iskele. Politicians and prominent cultural figures have offered their support to the artist's family and fans.

TRNC President Ersin Tatar highlighted that Konak "built a lasting cultural bridge between Cyprus and the Black Sea."

"The untimely passing of Cyprus' beloved Volkan Konak has left us in mourning. He established a cultural bridge between the Black Sea and Cyprus, where he performed frequently over the years. His captivating voice, singing Mağusa Limanı, will remain in our hearts forever. May he rest in peace," wrote the President of Northern Cyprus.

Prime Minister of the TRNC, Ünal Üstel, extended his condolences to Konak’s family and emphasized that the values he brought to Cyprus and the Turkish people will never be forgotten.

"The death of this renowned artist, who introduced Cypriot Turkish folk songs to his repertoire and shared the rich cultures of Turkey and Cyprus with the world, deeply saddened all of his fans. Volkan Konak was an artist affectionately known as the 'son of the North,' and he cherished every opportunity to speak about Cyprus with love," the Prime Minister stated.

Kyrenia Mayor Murat Şenkul also expressed his sorrow:

"Volkan Konak leaves behind an unforgettable legacy, not just for Turkish music but for all of humanity. Today, his loss has deeply shaken us. May God rest his soul, and may he find peace," the Mayor of Kyrenia wrote.

Konak, the celebrated Turkish singer and composer, passed away at the age of 58. While performing at the Grand Sapphire Resort & Casino in Northern Cyprus, he suddenly collapsed and lost consciousness on stage. He was urgently transported to Famagusta State Hospital, where doctors diagnosed a heart attack. Unfortunately, the singer could not be revived.

Volkan Konak was well-known in Turkey for his distinct style and his contributions to the country's musical culture. Some of his most popular songs include Cerrahpaşa, Mimoza Çiçeğim, and Yarim Yarim.

In the wake of his death, many other well-known cultural figures, including Sibel Can, Hakan Altun, and Koray Avcı, shared their condolences and paid tribute to the late artist.
