The first Turkish astronaut shared photos of Cyprus from space
The first Turkish astronaut, Alper Gezeravcı, shared photos of Cyprus taken from space.
In the pictures, which capture the island amidst the sea, the Turkish astronaut shared on his X social media account.
The published shots show Cyprus itself from one angle, from the side of the Karpas Peninsula, as well as part of the Turkish coastline. Also, in one of the photos, several elements of the International Space Station are visible.
Recall that the first Turkish astronaut, Alper Gezeravcı, was aboard the SpaceX spacecraft, which was successfully launched from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida on January 19, 2024. The Falcon 9 rocket, which delivered SpaceX's Dragon capsule to the International Space Station (ISS), was launched at 4:49 p.m. local time in the United States (11:49 p.m. Cyprus time).
The first-ever Turkish space traveler, Alper Gezeravcı, was in space to carry out various scientific missions on the ISS for 14 days. However, the return of the astronaut to Earth was postponed three times due to unfavorable weather conditions.
On February 9, Alper Gezeravcı returned to Earth from the International Space Station (ISS) together with other members of the Ax-3 mission crew.
