The defendants in the murder case of Aychi Alav, the director of a currency exchange point in Nicosia, appeared in court again. In court, the suspects claimed that they did not plan to kill their victim and expressed regret for what happened.

In the district court in Nicosia, 32-year-olds Vinel Sidrik Mbuhom Chomte and Brian Gibip Kvalar found themselves in the defendants' dock. The suspects were arrested for "premeditated murder" and "robbery."

During the court session, the prosecution reminded that the murder took place on December 22, 2023, around 14:47. The two suspects restrained the 45-year-old business owner, tying her hands and feet behind her with a seatbelt and antenna cable. They taped her mouth, which ultimately led to her death – the woman suffocated.

According to surveillance camera recordings, no one appeared at the scene except the accused.

After the attack, the suspects went to the Alav Döviz store, located nearby, and stole foreign currency and Turkish lira. The robbers' loot included $36,930, 10,285 euros, 880 pounds sterling, and 138,410 TL.

Then, the two perpetrators illegally crossed into the territory of the Republic of Cyprus, where they were arrested 17 days after the incident - on January 8, 2024. At the time of arrest, they had 2,800 euros. According to the accused, they sent the rest of the money to their families.

Both suspects were university students and had already provided voluntary confessions. The police requested that the suspects be kept in custody for further investigation.

The judge ruled to remand the suspects in prison for a period not exceeding 3 months.
