In Ankara, an agreement was signed to initiate the creation of the "Vessel Traffic Management System" in the Eastern Mediterranean within the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). The system will be monitored through the Vessel Traffic Service Center in Mersin.

The signing ceremony of the agreement was attended by the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure of Turkey, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, the Prime Minister of the TRNC, Ersan Saner, and the Minister of Public Works and Transport, Erhan Arıklı.

"We will enhance our efficiency in the Eastern Mediterranean, protect our interests in our 'Blue Homeland,' and control all maritime transportation in the space between the TRNC and our country," stated Abdulkadir Uraloğlu during the ceremony.

Speaking at the agreement signing ceremony, the President of Turkey's Defense Industry (SSB), Haluk Görgün, noted that Turkey's special geographical location carries not only significant opportunities but also serious threats.

Prime Minister Ersan Saner emphasized that the creation of the vessel traffic management system is an exciting and important project for the TRNC.

"Thanks to this project, the coasts of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus will now become safer, and we will have more influence in the Mediterranean," said the Prime Minister.

According to the CEO of the contracting company HAVELSAN, Mehmet Akif Nacar, within the project to establish the vessel traffic management system in the Eastern Mediterranean, one vessel traffic service center and three traffic monitoring stations will be built. Additionally, two automatic identification system stations and one radar station will be integrated into this system.

Backup and monitoring of the system will be carried out through the previously established Vessel Traffic Management Center in Mersin.
