The TRNC police checked 2,082 drivers: 358 violations, 43 vehicles confiscated
According to the police, on the night of September 7, 2025, large-scale road inspections were carried out in the TRNC: law enforcement officers monitored 2,082 drivers and identified 358 violators. During the raids, 43 vehicles were temporarily removed from traffic, and two people were arrested.
The most frequent violations were speeding (134 reports) and driving without a fastened seatbelt (52). Twenty-six reports were issued for driving under the influence. Other recorded violations include operating a vehicle without registration documents (21), lack of technical inspection (9), lack of insurance (7), ignoring traffic signs (5), driving without a license or outside insurance coverage (4), using a phone while driving (3), violation of passenger transport rules (1), and riding a motorcycle without a protective helmet (1). Additionally, 95 other violations were recorded.
What this means for residents of Northern Cyprus: expect intensified control measures on the roads; it is important to observe speed limits, wear seatbelts, carry documents, have valid insurance and technical inspection, and not drive under the influence. According to the police, inspections were conducted throughout the country.
