UN Secretary-General's Envoy Will Not Visit Cyprus
Maria Angela Holguin Cuellar, the personal representative of the UN Secretary-General on Cyprus, does not plan to visit the island. Instead, meetings with the leaders of the two communities will take place abroad in the near future.
This announcement was made by UN spokesperson Alim Siddiq. According to the official, the Colombian diplomat plans to meet with Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides and Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar separately in the coming weeks, but outside the island.
Media reports confirmed this information, citing Greek Foreign Ministry spokesperson Theodoros Gotsis, who stated that the planned meetings with the leaders of the two communities would be held abroad.
The exact date of the negotiations has not yet been set. Previously, it was reported that Maria Angela Holguin Cuellar, the UN Secretary-General's envoy on Cyprus, would visit the island to continue negotiations aimed at finding common ground between the two sides.
