After the evacuation of a residential building, the Mayor of Kyrenia called for a discussion on safety measures at construction sites
Mayor Murat Shengul shared his opinion on the incident on his social media page. Recall that the day before in Kyrenia, a residential building was evacuated after a powerful downpour. The danger of collapse arose due to the landslide of the foundation of the basement of a nearby building under construction.
According to the mayor, a total of 36 people were forced to leave their apartments. They were accommodated in three neighboring hotels.
Murat Shengul noted that after the holiday, the authorities should gather together with relevant departments, chambers, and unions to discuss safety measures that should be implemented during urban construction work.
"We need to discuss safety measures that should be implemented during such types of construction excavations in our city," said the Mayor of Kyrenia.
The mayor also added that as of today, all the affected residents, except those from one building, are returning home.
Recall that the day before, heavy rains hit Kyrenia, Alsancak, and Lapta. Due to the heavy precipitation, part of the roads in the region was closed as a result of flooding.
