Eight Construction Sites Shut Down in Nicosia After Safety Violations
The Department of Labour Inspection has conducted a series of site visits across Nicosia to ensure compliance with workplace health and safety regulations. A total of 16 construction sites were inspected.
As a result, work was immediately suspended at eight sites due to serious safety breaches. The remaining eight sites were issued written warnings, requiring them to correct identified deficiencies. Authorities have not publicly disclosed which specific sites were affected.
In a separate crackdown on illegal employment, labour inspectors also visited 10 construction sites, checking the status of 41 workers. Eight individuals were found to be working without proper registration. The Labour Department has issued administrative fines totaling 347,680 Turkish lira.
In a statement, the Ministry of Labour emphasized that inspections will be stepped up across all sectors, with particular attention given to the construction industry, in an effort to combat unregistered employment and improve site safety.
