The President of Germany distributed 60 kilograms of shawarma in Istanbul
During his visit to Turkey, the President of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, distributed 60 kilograms of shawarma to guests at the German consulate in Istanbul.
The dish was prepared by a specially invited chef, whom the German leader brought with him from Germany.
During the food distribution, the President of Germany emphasized that doner kebab connects the two countries, as it was invented by Turkish guest workers in Berlin.
Frank-Walter Steinmeier's visit to Turkey coincided with the 100th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, which were restored ten years after the end of World War I.
During the trip, the German leader visited the Sirkeci railway station in Istanbul, from where the first workers departed in the early 1960s, who eventually became the founders of the modern Turkish diaspora in Germany.
