President of TRNC condemns military assistance to Israel from air bases in Cyprus
Northern Cyprus will insist that the United Kingdom does not use its military bases on the island to assist Israel.
It was previously revealed that the UK could use its bases in South Cyprus (GCASC) after October 7 to support Israel's attacks on the Gaza Strip.
Haaretz newspaper reported that more than 40 American cargo planes, 20 British cargo planes, and 7 cargo helicopters delivered weapons, equipment, and personnel to the British Akrotiri airbase, under the administration of Greek Cypriots. The military contingent was increased by 1000 and currently stands at 4500 personnel.
Despite the statement by the Greek Cypriot leader Nicos Anastasiades that the US did not use British bases on the island to transfer weapons and ammunition to Israel and that the bases on the island were used by the British and Americans for preparation for a possible evacuation in the region, the TRNC leadership continues to insist that the existing military infrastructure should not be used to assist Israel.
"The Turkish Cypriot people condemn such an event and will never approve of it. Britain is a responsible state and should not support such a massacre," said President Ersin Tatar.
