President of TRNC Visits Turkish Cypriot Culture Festival in London and Meets UN Envoy Today
Ersin Tatar, President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), participated in the 7th Turkish Cypriot Culture Festival in London. Today, the leader of Northern Cyprus will meet with Maria Angela Holguín Cuellar, the personal representative of the UN Secretary-General.
The Turkish Cypriot leader attended the festival in London, accompanied by his wife, Sibel Tatar.
Also present at the official event were Fikri Ataoğlu, Minister of Tourism, Environment, and Culture; Osman Koray Ertaş, Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey in London; Çimen Keskin, TRNC representative in London; Turgay Deniz, president of the Cyprus Turkish Chamber of Commerce; along with representatives from the Turkish Cypriot and Turkish communities, former members of the United Kingdom Parliament, and other dignitaries.
The festival's opening featured a folklore ensemble from the Turkish school of Atatürk in Hornsey.
In his speech, Ersin Tatar conveyed greetings from the people of TRNC to the citizens of England, congratulated everyone involved in organizing the festival, emphasized the importance of cooperation and unity. He also discussed the issue of direct flights from England to TRNC.
President Tatar emphasized that direct flights are crucial not only for Turkish Cypriots but also for British residents living in TRNC, stating that “further embargo is unacceptable.”
The Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey in London thanked Ersin Tatar for his participation in the festival on behalf of the large Turkish community in London.
Following the performances, a video prepared by the president highlighting the period of the Turkish Cypriot national struggle, negotiation processes, and developments following the recently proposed two-state solution policy was shown. Turkish schools later presented shows and musical concerts.
Today, President of TRNC Ersin Tatar will meet with Maria Angela Holguín Cuellar, the personal representative of the UN Secretary-General, in London. The meeting is scheduled for 17:00 Cyprus time.
The leader of Northern Cyprus will also participate in a roundtable discussion in London, meet with journalists, and hold meetings with members of parliament and representatives of Cypriot-Turkish non-governmental organizations.
It is worth noting that last week, a Colombian diplomat met with Nikos Christodoulidis, head of the administration of Greek Cypriots, in Brussels.
