President of the TRNC Flew to Gambia
The President of the TRNC, Ersin Tatar, left the island the day before and flew to Gambia. The Head of Northern Cyprus will participate in the 15th summit of heads of state and government of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
The leader of the Turkish Cypriots departed from Ercan Airport to the capital of Gambia, Banjul, yesterday at 15:55. It is expected that Ersin Tatar will deliver a speech to the summit participants, heads of state, and government.
In particular, the President of the TRNC will seek support from member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, "to put an end to the inhumane policy of isolation pursued by the Greek Cypriot leadership against the Turkish Cypriot people."
Additionally, within the framework of the summit, Ersin Tatar will inform his counterparts about the current stage of the Cyprus issue.
Besides high-level bilateral meetings, the Head of Northern Cyprus will also give interviews to various media outlets. During the president's trip, he will be accompanied by special representative Gunes Onar and the first secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Hakan Aksoy.
The summit, organized by member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) every three years, will take place in the West African country of Gambia on May 4-5 this year.
The OIC is considered the largest international organization after the UN, with 57 members. In addition to participants, the organization includes 5 observer states: Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Central African Republic, the TRNC, Thailand, and Russia.
The Islamic summit is convened every three years with the participation of kings, heads of state, and government of member countries. At OIC summits, consultations are held on the implementation of set goals, and decisions are made regarding the policy agenda.
