TRNC President Takes Control of Investigation into Donkey Killings in Karpasia
The President of the TRNC, Ersin Tatar, has made an official statement regarding the killing of 14 donkeys in Karpasia. The police have initiated a thorough investigation, and Tatar has personally taken charge of the case, urging authorities to swiftly identify and hold accountable those responsible.
In his statement, Ersin Tatar pledged to closely monitor the investigation into what he called an "appalling incident."
— "This horrifying event has deeply saddened me, just as it has hurt the hearts of every compassionate individual. The overwhelming condemnation from our people against this act of cruelty has been a balm for our pain. Turkish Cypriots are a people who love animals and humans alike, and their reaction to this incident is a testament to that," said the President of the TRNC.
Tatar further emphasized that the Animal Protection Law, which was unanimously passed by the General Assembly on March 4, 2013, "should serve as our moral guide in this situation."
— "I am confident that our police will quickly identify those responsible for this atrocious act and bring them to justice," the TRNC leader concluded.
Over the weekend, unknown assailants shot and killed a herd of stray donkeys. At least 14 animals were killed, including a pregnant female who was shot while giving birth. The animals were reportedly killed by close-range gunfire.
Upon discovering the bodies of the donkeys, the police launched an extensive investigation. According to a statement from the press office, the incident was reported on Sunday at around 4:00 PM, approximately 500 meters northwest of the Dipkarpaz landfill. Police officers, along with officials from the veterinary department, are coordinating efforts to determine the cause of the tragedy and locate those responsible.
