A drunk illegal immigrant who assaulted a taxi driver in Güzelyurt has been sent to prison
In Güzelyurt, police officers detained a drunk troublemaker who assaulted a taxi driver. It turned out that the man had been living in the country illegally for several months and evading justice. He was sent to prison.
According to the police press service, Oliver Yuzan appeared before the court. He is charged with assault, inappropriate behavior, drunkenness, and residing in the country without a residence permit.
According to the investigation, on April 7th, around 9:30 p.m., the suspect, in a state of drunkenness, attacked the taxi driver and beat him right in front of the Güzelyurt police station. Additionally, he was shouting loudly and disrupting public order.
As a result of the investigation, it was found that the suspect had been in the TRNC territory without a residence permit for 129 days - since September 30, 2023. The man denied his involvement in the assault on the taxi driver but agreed with the other charges.
A police officer requested to detain the suspect in prison pending trial. The judge decided to keep him in custody for a period not exceeding 20 days.
