Collapsing bus station in Famagusta threatens safety: traders raise alarm

The bus station in Famagusta has reached a critical state due to years of neglect and lack of maintenance. Buildings on the terminal grounds are deteriorating, concrete is falling from structures, creating a real safety threat.

According to traders, the premises have not been renovated for about 35 years. As a result, structures have become unsafe, and fragments of concrete regularly fall from them. Recently, one of the shops was affected by the collapse of a piece of roof, causing panic among employees and customers.

Entrepreneurs complain that the Famagusta municipality not only fails to carry out necessary works but also does not allow owners to conduct repairs themselves. According to them, the situation has reached a deadlock: buildings continue to collapse, danger increases, but authorities still have not reacted.

One trader said that over the weekend his shop “shook” from a piece of concrete falling from the roof. He emphasized that they literally live “on the edge,” as there is a daily risk of serious consequences. “Does something have to happen before anyone pays attention?” asked the entrepreneur.

Experts warn that buildings neglected for decades are at high risk of collapse. They believe a full inspection of the terminal structures is urgently needed and reinforcement work should begin to prevent possible tragedies.
