From May 1st, a ban on bonfires will come into effect in Northern Cyprus

The Department of Forestry of the TRNC reminded that a ban on bonfires will soon come into effect in Northern Cyprus. The restriction will be in place from May 1st to October 31st.

The TRNC Fire Department reminded that with the onset of summer, dry grass can ignite even from the slightest spark.

"We remind you that from May 1st to October 31st, it is prohibited to light any fire for any purpose - even for cleaning," the message said.

The Forestry Directorate of the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources emphasized that with the rise in temperature, the fire danger in the forests will reach a high level and drew attention to the rules and precautions that need to be followed. It is especially emphasized that cigarette butts should not be thrown from vehicles. According to the Meteorology Department forecasts, the absolute humidity in the atmosphere will decrease, and the air temperature will rise to 36-37 degrees Celsius.

Any signs of fire or smoke should be reported immediately to emergency services at the following phone numbers: 199 - fire, 155 - police, 177 - forest fire protection, 188 - emergency power grid service.

As part of the preparations for the fire season, fire readiness teams are being formed in the Forestry Department, equipment is being prepared, and work is underway to clear forest roads and fire safety strips.
